Robertson’s Reportings: 2/1 – 2/7

As we enter the second month of 2019, welcome to Robertson’s Reportings! The Patriots, once again, became the Super Bowl Champions. Most of the attention from the Super Bowl was not on the game but on the halftime show, particularly on the band Maroon 5. Social media posts show how many Americans were unhappy with Adam Levine’s performance and dancing. He was especially made fun of for his tank top that stayed on for only part of the show. The Los Angeles Times wrote an article with headline, “Maroon 5’s Halftime Show Tasted Like Fear.”  One Twitter user said that Levine looked like a “Chipotle bag” because of his many chest tattoos. In response to the backlash, Levine wrote on his Instagram account, “…we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better.” Big Boi was also attacked by the media for wearing his fur coat, and Travis Scott fans were upset when he did not propose to Kylie Jenner, his girlfriend. Many celebrities, such as Cardi B and Rihanna, turned down the opportunity to perform to show support for Colin Kaepernick. However, Cardi B did show up in a Super Bowl commercial.

Greensboro made it onto national news when a man was found in a UNCG student’s closet. The girl thought that a racoon or ghost was in her closet, so when she heard rattling she said, “Who’s there?” The man, in response, said, “Oh, my name’s Drew.” When Maddie, the college student who only identified herself by first name, opened the door she found the man wearing her clothes. He walked into the bathroom, looked at himself, and said to Maddie, “You’re really pretty. Can I give you a hug?” The man never hugged her, and left her apartment when Maddie’s boyfriend arrived. Maddie decided to call her boyfriend instead of the police after Swofford begged her. During the time that it took for her boyfriend to arrive, she kept a conversation with the man.  He was then arrested at a gas station close to her apartment, and turned out to be Andrew Swofford, a 30-year-old who had been charged for other crimes many times in the past. Before the incident, Maddie noticed handprints on her walls that were not hers and clothes gone missing. On December 19, Maddie found two other intruders in her apartment. Now, Maddie has decided that it is time for her to move because of her smelly closet and the bad vibe that is given off.

On Tuesday, President Trump’s State of the Union Address finally took place. The address was originally scheduled to take place on January 29, but Speaker of the House Pelosi did not allow him to deliver it in the House. President Trump had two choices: give his address at another venue or postpone it. He chose to postpone the address to 9:00 Eastern Time on February 5. During the hour and twenty-one minute speech, President Trump addressed many subjects including the booming economy, immigration, foreign policy, troops, and our unity. In protest for women’s rights, many democratic women dressed in white to get the media’s attention. One highlight of the event was when members of Congress sang “Happy Birthday” to Judah Samet, a Holocaust survivor and survivor of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting that happened only a few months ago, who turned 81 on the day of the State of the Union. See you soon on Robertson’s Reportings, coverage you can count on!
