Robertson’s Reportings: 3/1 – 3/7

Welcome back to Robertson’s Reportings! Over the weekend, a tornado in Alabama killed 23. Eight people are missing, and 90 have been injured. Wind speeds got up to 170 miles per hour, and the “tight-knit” community of Beauregard plans to begin rebuilding soon. The storm, raging through about 70 miles, went through Georgia and parts of South Carolina but did not impact them nearly as much as those in Alabama. This tornado was the deadliest since 2013 when Moore, Oklahoma was hit.

On March 6, three rare North Carolina river otters were captured from a sanctuary, and the search for them is still underway. Officials from the sanctuary claimed that someone entered the facility and swiped them while workers were not looking. The entrance gates were found open indicating that a someone stole the otters, Ned, Nessy, and Sigmund, instead of an animal escape. This is the third time that animals have been stolen from the sanctuary in the recent history.

Later that night in Washington, another thief stole $600 from Girl Scouts selling cookies. The scouts were extremely cold since they were selling outside of a grocery store at around eight o’clock at night. The man was acting “strange,” a parent helping sell the cookies said, because he kept buying cookies, walking around, and returning them. A surveillance camera caught an image of the man, but when police arrived he already escaped.

New Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar is under fire after making controversial, anti-semitic comments. In 2012, Omar tweeted, “Israel has hypnotised the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” Last month, she tweeted even more Jewish stereotypes. Omar was pressured to apologize, but not everyone is ready to forgive her. The House Democrats voted on Thursday, March 7, on a solution to “oppose hate” and move past Omar’s comments.

On March 7, Michael Cohen, former Trump attorney, sued President trump for legal costs. Cohen, who was sentenced to three years in prison for lying under oath and other felonies, testified in front of the House Oversight Committee at the end of February and beginning of March to give details of the president’s alleged affairs. Cohen claimed that the Trump Organization stopped paying him his legal fees in June of 2018 when they previously agreed to pay all of his attorneys’ fees. He said that he was never reimbursed, and he feels that he is owed $1.9 million.

Krispy Kreme has announced that on March 15, 16 and on Saint Patrick’s Day they will bring back their “O’riginal” green donuts. The dough that debuted in 2016 is green with their classic glaze, but the donuts are said to taste the same as their original glazed donuts. They are also randomly giving out “Golden Dozen Passes” that gives customers a free dozen donuts per month until Saint Patrick’s Day of next year. Many other chain restaurants, such as Dunkin’, have brought back Saint Patrick’s Day treats in the month of March. See you next time on Robertson’s Reportings, coverage you can count on!
