Robertson’s Reportings: 3/15 – 3/21

Welcome to another week of Robertson’s Reportings! More than 200 doctors from over 40 countries have signed a petition to the United Nations and World Health Organization seeking improved protection from non-ionizing electromagnetic fields that can harm humans, animals, and the environment. This petition that was originally created in 2015 was recently modified because there is a growing concern relating to AirPods and other wireless headphones. Exposure to this radiation that comes from Bluetooth technologies increases the risk of cancer. Aside from cancer, these waves could potentially cause genetic damage.

On March 15, news spread of a mass shooting in New Zealand. At least 50 people have been confirmed dead, and more are in critical condition. The suspect is a 28 year old from Australia who will be put on trial in New Zealand. The suspect, along with two unidentified people in custody, entered two mosques in Christchurch, a city in new Zealand, in the afternoon. They opened fire as people, some in the middle of praying, attempted to escape the building. Six minutes after the Australian suspect entered the building, he was seen rushing to his car and escaping. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told the distraught nation, “Our gun laws will change.” Less than a week after this statement, the sale of military-style semi-automatics, assault rifles, and high capacity magazines was banned.

Another shooting occurred in a city in Netherlands, Utrecht, on March 18 when a man took out his gun on a tram. One witness claimed that the man “started shooting wildly.” Three people have been reported dead and even more are injured. The shooter was found a day later because a photo was captured from a tram security camera of the side of the suspect’s face that identified the man as a 37 year old with a criminal record.

Will Connolly, a 17 year old from Melbourne, cracked an egg over controversial Queensland Senator Fraser Anning during a press conference, and social media has exploded with the video of him. Anning, after realizing what happened, turned around a hit the boy who then fought back. Bystanders pulled the two away from each other, and Connolly was held down until the police arrived. He was taken into custody but has been released. Anning has been the center of attention when he blamed the mosque shootings that took place on March 15 on immigration. Connelly has raised over $50,000 on a GoFundMe page, titled “Money for EggBoi” set up by one of his supporters. He announced that the majority of the money will be sent to the victims of the shooting.

There have been three deaths documented because of historic flooding. Many flood records have been broken throughout the midwest, but Iowa and Nebraska have been hit the hardest. While hundreds were forced to evacuate, over ten million people were put under flood warnings. Water in the Missouri River reached over 30 feet high, breaking the original record of 28 feet. Light rain is expected throughout the week as the affected states begin to rebuild. See you next time on Robertson’s Reportings, coverage you can count on!
