Tough Loss for the Pirates

On Wednesday, November 8th the Pirates went head to head in a frustrating game at Porter Ridge High School in the 3rd round of playoffs. After a long cold game played in the rain, the Pirates faced a tough loss. “We were ahead 2-0 with 19 minutes left against Porter Ridge our of Charlotte on a miserable cold and wet night,” said Assistant Coach Todd Hartsell. Porter Ridge scored 3 unanswerable goals in 18 minutes. One minute remaining in the game and the Pirates were fouled inside the box. Caleb Patsch took the PK and tied the game 3-3. After two 10 minute overtimes, the game went into PKs. “We missed the first 2 pk’s putting us in an almost unrecoverable position, but then our goalie, unbelievably, saves the 3rd and 4th pk. We end up going 9 deep on the pk’s, but our last player hit it wide and we lost…” says Hartsell. “Eric Winkler, our goalie, stopped 2 penalty kicks in a row from only 12 yards out to keep us in the game, that is almost impossible.” This brings the Pirate season to a close after a hard fought year. The Pirates are already waiting to dominate 2018’s season.
