Mens and Women’s Swim Teams Finish 2nd at Robert R. Sawyer Invitational

Twenty three Guilford County schools met in the Greensboro Aquatic Center to compete in the 8th annual Robert R. Sawyer Swimming and Diving Invitational. Hosted by Grimsley, the tournament is the unofficial Guilford County swimming/diving championship. On December 21, 2018, 533 participants competed, with Page High School dominating in the girls races. Senior McKenzie Campbell broke a meet record in the 100 Butterfly set 4 years ago. Campbell with assistant from Hannah and Mary Grace Copeland, and Eliza Gesse, destroyed in the girls 200 meter relay. Mary Grace and Hannah Copeland also won the 200 freestyle with help from Gesse and Emily Ally. The twins will be swimming for UNCW this fall, and Campbell will be swimming for Georgia Tech. Page boys swimmers also did well, but in total it wasn’t enough to take the victory as Reagan High School took first place, but finished strong and placing second. The girls also finished second in the competition overall. Page doing well created a great sense of pride for the team. “It’s a bittersweet moment, as a senior, but I’m so happy we finished strong in such an important event,” stated senior Craig Herdon, one of the top guys on the team.
