Mike Raybon and Kathy Dick Invitational

On January 19, Page men’s wrestling team competed in the Mike Raybon and Kathy Dick invitational, the unofficial championships for Guilford County Schools, and open to all GCS wrestling teams. Starting the new year strong, Page placed third out of twelve teams with three varsity match winners, Elliot Holden, Will Woodburn, and Jacob Woodburn, and one JV match winner, junior Cortez Wilson. Starting the season, Coach Sheffield’s hopes for the team were high, as they returned 9 starters. “This year’s wrestling team has the potential to do big things not only in our conference, but also in the state. Last year we qualified 11 wrestlers for the Regional tournament and 2 wrestlers qualified for the state tournament.” With such a strong placement after the Mike Raybon and Kathy Dick invitational, it seems his confidence in his wrestlers in not misplaced, and this should fuel a deeper hunger to do well in both regionals and states as it draws closer.
