Volunteers Needed for the Page Arts and Literature Festival

From 1:00 to 5:00 on Sunday, March 24, the Page Arts and Literature Festival will be held at the school. At the event, students and staff’s paintings, literature, photography, animations, sculptures, and many other forms of art and design will be featured. Along with these works, there will be performances by musicians, dancers, actors, comedians, and more. Page’s very own dance team is preparing a performance choreographed by Whitney Thore, a local dancer who stars in the television show My Big, Fat, Fabulous Life.

All of the proceeds from this event will benefit Page’s arts and literature programs: Band, Chorus, Dance, Drama, Art, and English. The online auction, featuring works from well-known artists, is the primary source of benefits. Students, staff, and their families can donate cash, tickets to drama or art shows, or any art that they have stored away that could be auctioned off. Volunteers are needed to help out with various different areas during the event. Students, staff, and parents have the opportunity to volunteer to help with the art walk, handmade marketplace, advertising, and can also coordinate performances, food trucks, and schedules. There are 120 slots, 24 for each position, available. To sign up, visit the following link: Sign Up. Any student volunteers that fill out the form will get Service Learning Hours.

The Handmade Marketplace is a section of the festival that will be devoted to crafts made by students and staff members. The tables will be free, meaning anyone can sell their crafts, but each vendor will be asked to make a donation of any amount to the Page arts departments. It is important to remember that anyone participating must bring their own change to give to customers. If you are interested in sharing your work for the Art Walk or other parts of the festival, participants are needed, so you must talk to your English, Art, or Music teacher as soon as possible to get more information. Information can also be found on the official website. This website is meant to “continue on after the Arts and Literature Festival,” said Angie Besecker, a member of the Parent-Teacher-Student Association. This “literary and arts magazine” will be used by Page Musical and Arts departments to upload videos and pieces of art so that students’ work can be shared throughout the Guilford County Schools community.

On January 22 in the Art Room, Besecker gave information to a group of students and parents interested in volunteering or turning in art or literature. Besecker previously helped out with the Reflections Arts Program, a company that shares the art and literature of students in all grades. Students that would like to participate in the Page Arts and Literature Festival can submit their work online to the official website or will soon be able to drop their pieces in the office. For those interested in doing skits, comedy acts, or dramas, auditions will be held in February or March to ensure that everything is appropriate. There will also be demonstrations by students and staff. For example, a student can build a sculpture in front of a live crowd. It is important to share this information with others and visit the social media accounts, Instagram and Twitter, that are linked to the website. Besecker wants to make sure that everyone knows that this is a student-led festival that needs as many volunteers, participants, and leaders as possible, especially since “the school focuses on sports…when there are many talented musicians, artists, and vocalists,” and this is the opportunity to show off these students’ talents.
