Today this article is here to inform you exactly why it is a sport. I am currently a competitive cheerleader that just attended the biggest cheerleading competition in the world. When I say the biggest competition in the world for cheerleaders, I mean huge. People from across the globe compete here. For example, there are multiple teams from Canada, Germany, Brazil, Japan, England, Australia, France and so many more. I call this competition like the Olympics but for cheerleading. The title of this competition is Worlds.

Worlds is a comp where you can’t just enroll your team, but you must be awarded what is called “a worlds bid” at a competition beforehand. These bids are given at multiple competitions worldwide to the winning teams. These bids can be a partial paid or fully paid bid. If you get a full paid bid, it means the whole team’s enrollment for worlds is completely paid for. You can also win a bid boost which is just money you can win to help cover the expenses of the trip. Worlds are in Orlando Florida at the ESPEN Wide world of sports complex. While attending this event, all athletes can go to all the Disney theme parks for free. This competition lasts around 1–4 days depending on the division you compete in.

At worlds, it’s a two–day competition meaning you can compete for up to 2 days depending on how your team scores. According to how many teams are in your division, either the top 10 or 5 teams will only make it to day 2 for finals. You could call Worlds like any other sports competition but at worlds, it is very professional. There will be close to over 1000 people there at all times. People will go to this event just to watch and support the teams of their favorite cheerleaders. There are 4 big arenas where teams are performing at all times.

At this year’s event, 512 teams competed. Most teams get team photos at their hotels and at the competition to capture big moments like this. Worlds are for cheer levels 6 and up. They have the exact competition after worlds, at the same location for team levels 5 and lower called The Summit. While competing, on the competition floor there will be 3 people standing behind stunts to help ensure the safety of the flyer in case a stunt falls. On the last day of the competition, whereas all teams went and competed.

There is a celebration at the Hollywood Studios Park that only cheerleaders and their families and friends can come because the theme park is kept open after hours just for these cheerleaders. Worlds is a big deal to even be at, so being able to experience this occasion is a wonderful opportunity that not most people will get. With all being said I fairly believe cheerleading is a sport not only because this article has given its justice to show just how real this sport is but also how surreal the spirit is just to even play this sport.
