Various studies (see link below) show that black women are 2-3 times more likely to go through maternal mortality than in comparison to white women. For National Minority Health Month, the Guilford County community came together to address Black Maternal Health. This event was done to “educate, empower, and celebrate families while raising awareness about disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes.” According to the CDC, in 2021, the maternal mortality rate for Black women was 69.9 deaths per 100,000 live births, while being 26.6 deaths per 100,000 live births for White women. This assures that there’s 2.6 times more likely that as a black woman, you can pass away during or after giving birth than if you were a white woman. This obviously isn’t okay, and this is why Guilford County met up to address, and hopefully try to lower these numbers.
