Lea and Auberry Selected for Governor’s School
Two Page students have been invited to attend Governor’s School this year: Caroline Lea (in dance) and Laura Auberry (in Social Science). The Governor’s School of North Carolina is the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the nation. This program is only open to rising seniors, with exceptions for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas. The session starts on June 19th and ends July 27th. Students live in dormitories and have a variety of recreational activities available. Applications were completed in October and students must score at least a 92nd percentile on a standardized test to apply. Caroline Lea says, “I was so happy when I found out that I was accepted into Governor’s School. I knew the chances were small with so many applicants. I felt honored and lucky to be presented with a great opportunity.” She is looking forward to meeting more peers who are interested in the same subjects as her, learning from new teachers, and experiencing a month similar to college. Laura Auberry says, “I was so excited to find out I was accepted into Governor’s School. I didn’t really have any ideas about what I was going to do over the summer if I didn’t get accepted, so I was very happy to learn I had been accepted.” She plans on studying political science in college and is very excited to meet new people at Governor’s School. If you see Caroline Lea or Laura Auberry around, be sure to congratulate them on being accepted into Governor’s School!
