There is a new IB/AP coordinator for the 2017-2018 school year, Liana Blue. Last year she was a biology teacher here at Page. This year, along with her new position, she is also teaching IB Biology SL, the highest level IB class. We interviewed her and this is what we found out:
How were you chosen as the new coordinator?
“I applied and interviewed for the position at the end of last year. I heard back over the summer.”
Were you excited when you heard you got the position? It comes with a lot of extra work, so I’m sure that many wouldn’t have wanted the job.
“I was excited. I think excitement is a mixture of joy and nervousness. There is joy in the thought of starting something new, but also nervousness in not knowing exactly what to expect.”
Who has helped you adapt to this change the most?
“Definitely Mrs. McGehee. She has really set up a strong IB program here at Page and has answered so many of my questions. I’m also just really grateful for having such a strong group of IB teachers to work with. I’m enjoying learning a lot from different subject areas.”
Is there anything in particular that has prepared you for his position most?
“Coaching track and cross country has helped me a lot with thinking through how to coordinate schedules and meet the needs of a diverse group of people.”
How have you been able to manage your time being a teacher, coach, and now the IB coordinator?
“That’s a good question. I try to break up the day into sections so that I focus completely on one role at a time, but of course things come up and sometimes I have to wear multiple hats at once. I enjoy it though. My days are never boring.”
Mrs. Blue is going to have a lot on her schedule this year, but she is a good choice for the job.
