Page High School and the Page Athletic Booster Club have been working together to install a new scoreboard in the Marion Kirby Stadium. Through advertising sponsorships and donations, Page is $25,000 away from their goal. While the cost of the scoreboard seems exceptionally high, projections from the booster club indicate that the scoreboard will generate $55,000 to $60,000 annually in income. On a less conservative scale, projections indicate $90,000 to $100,000 per year. How will this money be made? Since fans are constantly glancing at the scoreboard during athletic events, advertisers will jump on the opportunity to have messages with their logo displayed on the board. In some instances, local businesses will sign contracts of up to 10 years with the school. With even a few businesses, that adds up to cover the cost of the scoreboard, but it also generates thousands of dollars of profit. While they aren’t typically a major topic of conversation, it turns out that scoreboards can be key to funding schools.
The Page Athletic Booster Club hopes that it “will not only enhance athletics across-the-board but also trickle down to other student-led activities at Page for many years to come.” Anyone interested in donating to the scoreboard or for inquiries about the booster club in general can contact [email protected].
