Many of us walk the same paths to class every day, complaining about the old air conditioning units and leaky faucets in the bathrooms. But do we ever wonder how many people have thought the same things? How many have walked the same paths? How many of these people have gone on to lead inspiring lives, impacting more people than we could ever imagine. Few can say they’ve experienced Page from as many perspectives as Assistant Principal Marci Denning. Once a student facing the challenges of high school herself, she now helps guide students through their own journeys.

After 13 years of teaching students with special needs, Denning transitioned into an administrative role, always keeping the student experience close to heart. Denning’s approach to both teaching and administration is modeled after her all time favorite teacher, Laura Rose who taught Yearbook. “Being the editor, I knew her a long time, she always made sure I was in a good headspace, keeping up with my work, making sure I was going to graduate on time,” She reflects, “Just taking that extra interest in me, to help me.”

Denning’s perspective on Page doesn’t end at student and administrator. She was also able to experience it from a parents point of view when her daughter attended. Though the bleachers were the same, their experiences were wildly different. Recently graduating, her daughter attended Page during the pandemic. Starting her Freshman year in a world of zoom calls, social distancing, and disinfectant, Denning witnessed first hand how students adapted to an ever-changing learning environment.

“Page has become more diverse and more like a melting pot, I love that,” Denning reflects. The diversity in both students’ backgrounds and their experiences is something she values deeply. Which is another thing she remembers fondly about the previous Page High, that “All groups of kids just got along, even if they didn’t interact with each other, they coexisted.” It is so important to remember our schools history of togetherness and unity. Denning believes Page is a place where people should be able to experience their own lives without fear, and where they can become lifelong learners. Page means a lot to Assistant Principal Marci Denning, after experiencing this school from many angles: a student, a parent, and now an administrator. After all these years, she continues to dream big in all that she does.
