The best way to appreciate bats is from afar (unlike this boy) so you can minimize the risk of catching a disease. But what should you do if you see an injured bat? First, wear proper protection such as gloves, a thick coat, and long pants when preparing to capture the wounded bat. Then place a thick towel over the animal and pick him up carefully. Place the injured bat in a ventilated box or a pet carrier, then call the Wildlife Helpline at 1-866-318-2401. Look out for your fuzzy flying friends this Bat Appreciation Month (and year-round).
