Did you know that more than 100 people have died due to Hurricane Helene? Hurricane Helene
turned from a tropical storm to a hurricane on Wednesday September 25th. It is coming from the
U.S Gulf coast headed towards Florida. The storm was 255 miles southwest of Tampa as of 11
a.m. ET, traveling northeast at 14 mph. Hurricane Helene is currently category 2 as of Thursday
September 26th, with speeds of one hundred mph. Multiple states have taken precautions and evacuated. In
Florida it is completely flooded. Florida received 12-16 inches of rain with the storm surge
reaching more than 15 feet above ground. Millions of people have lost power. During the storm
over the three days when Helene made landfall, Helene had increased to a category 3+. Asheville
and the Appalachian Mountains had devastating damage after the storm. With crazy weather
and lots of rain, it is super dangerous of those in Asheville. Inches of rain ran down the mountains
causing lots of flooding. Many have lost homes and even roads have completely broken apart.
Cities are destroyed. Food and water are being airlifted to people who are stuck in the flooding.
A lot of people have gone missing during this hurricane. There are about 1.3 million energy
consumers still without power from Florida all the way to Virginia. People from Asheville are not
expecting power any time soon. During the hurricane multiple tornadoes were created and went
through multiple cities. A tornado had occurred in Durham causing a tree to fall on someone’s
car killing them. Families are unable to call any loved ones as cell service the area does not
exist. Some have even described this hurricane as a bomb that had gone through the cities.
