If you’re in school, took school, or just have access to the web, you know what the holocaust is. Between the years 1933 and 1945, nearly ⅔ of the Jewish population were murdered by Nazi Germany. This massive genocide marked the spread of antisemitism and became a truly heartbreaking and traumatizing time in history. While about 6 million Jews passed, there were few that did make it out and continued to live successful lives after this event. Did you know that there’s a day where we can remember both the survivors and victims lost? On January 27th, 2025, you can do just that! That day is Holocaust remembrance day is an international memorial day made to remember this event.
Let’s talk about and remember someone who survived this tragic event in history. The phenomena herself, Dr Ruth Westheimer was born June 4th, 1928, with Jewish backgrounds during the holocaust, she raised from this and soon became a well-known radio host and intimacy therapist. She hosted a call-in radio show in the 80’s; “Sexually Speaking” where she answered her listeners questions on relationships, even going as far as releasing books that showcased answers to these questions she received. These questions included topics like as sex, love and loneliness. She became popular quickly due to her frank and non-judgemental outlooks, and even appeared on The Howard Stern Radio Show, the Dr. Oz Show, Nightline, the Tonight Show and even the Late Night with David Letterman. She lived much life, and on July 12th, 2024 at the age of 96, she passed away peacefully in her home in Manhattan, NY.
