Have you ever thought about what might happen to animals when a hurricane occurs? I mean after all they do live in the environment around you. Think about those terrible winds and Tornados that can occur during one. What about the flooded roads and washed away houses that had pets living there. Animals that live in trees or rely on them for food are the most affected during a storm. These habitats often suffer more destruction than lower lying areas and offer the least amount of protection. Birds who nest in trees or inside trunks often die when those trees are brought down in high winds. Currently right now due to hurricane Helene and Milton in Florida, wildlife experts warn hurricane victims to watch out for gators that are on the move in the flood waters.
Residents that are returning home after fleeing from the hurricane have discovered gators wandering their halls and snakes in their neighborhoods, pushed in by currents from Hurricane Milton. There have also been snakes lurking around in homes and flood waters as well. It is recommended to carry a walking stick and use it to feel in front of them as they move through flood waters. Some pet owners say that letting their pets roam free may give them a better chance at surviving. These may be pet owners to farm life like horses, cows, goats and etc. Farmers think it is more dangerous to keep them in a barn because of the high winds that occur during the storm.
