Although the season is near its close, Page Field Hockey still has plenty of games to play. The Pirates currently stand at 4-3 overall and 3-2 in conference, with games against notable teams such as Grimsley being rescheduled for the future. Also pertinent to the weather is the team’s roster, which currently stands at 55 girls for both teams. However, this only includes five seniors, making one Page one of the largest Field Hockey programs in North Carolina.
This grouping allows the Pirates to not only look forward to the remainder of the season, but next season as well. With so many of the varsity players being underclassmen or juniors, this season is a perfect time to get in-game experience which will hopefully translate to success next year.
In the meantime, the Pirates are looking forward to a successful remainder of the season. So far, standout players include top scorer and senior Lucy Froelich who has scored the winning goal three times with consistent high-level play. Also among the teams standout players is Evy Hochstein, a midfielder who does an excellent job of controlling the pace of the game. Additionally, Kate Yarbrough and Amber Jones have also been important in games and crucial to the team’s success as both captains and players.
All together, the Pirates have as strong a group as they do large. Coach Lance Wood asserts, “Page Field Hockey is clearly moving from strength to strength, however its strongest attribute has to be the players dedication to each other and their desire to grow as a team.” Best of luck to the Pirates for the remainder of the season!
