Coming off of a two game losing streak, the Page Men’s Basketball team bounced back Tuesday night(1/15) with a 59-46 win against High Point Central. After going into the locker room down two at halftime, the Pirates resumed play during the second half displaying strong defense. This was most prominent during the third quarter, where the Pirates held Central to only seven points. Defensive intensity was also focal to the fourth quarter, in which Central was held to 11 points. This strong second-half performance on the defensive side of the ball elevates the Pirate’s record to 8-7 on the season and places them first in conference with a victory in their first Metro-4A game.
Significant contributors to this game include Point Guard Jaden Ellis(20pts, 5ast), Shooting Guard Mike Maxwell(10pts, 2stl, 3ast) and Forward Dashaun Ballard(10pts, 6reb). Also notable were senior Forward Nate Duggins(5pts, 5ast, 5reb) and senior Guard William Clem(5pts, 3ast, 3reb) whose well rounded contributions helped the Pirates down the stretch to come out on top.
The Pirates face off next tonight against Northwest Guilford at 7:30PM at home in the second conference game of the season. The Vikings enter the game with a dominant 12-3 record, winning their first conference game against High Point Central last Friday. Significant victories for the Vikings include a 68-67 win over Greensboro Day last December and a 63-54 win against a strong Southern Guilford team(12-5 as of now). Good luck to the Pirates as they battle the Vikings tonight!
