Tuesday night marked the end of the Page-Grimsley basketball matchups for the 2021-2022 season. Four games were played: Varsity and JV for both boys and girls. Both JV games were at Grimsley, while varsity games were hosted by Page.
The girls’ varsity team won 49-27 in their second win over the Whirlies this season. Sophomore Candice Williams led the team with an impressive 18 points, 6 of which came from 3-point shots. Senior Anna Schmedes was named player of the game with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 10 points.
The girls’ junior varsity team also pulled off a win with a final score of 37-28 in their second win against Grimsley this season. The lead scorer was sophomore Hailee Cook. The boys’ junior varsity team lost a close game, ending with a score of 62-60.
The Whirlies won the boys’ varsity game 62-43. The lead scorer for the Pirates was #5 Josh Scovens, a 6’6” senior, followed by Senior Grady Sherrill. The Pirates played well in the first half of the game, but their defense started to crumble towards the 4th quarter. Ultimately, it was a good game, but the Whirlies pulled away at the end to get the win.
The basketball season isn’t over yet, with two last games for the boys’ varsity team taking place this weekend against Southeast Guilford at 7:30 on Friday and Northwest Guilford at 3:30 on Saturday. These are both home games. The girls’ JV team plays at Southeast Guilford at 5:00 on Friday, and the girls’ varsity team plays an hour and a half before the boys on both Friday and Saturday. As for the Whirlies, we will meet again next season!
