Almost every high school has clubs and teams of some sort. Whether it’s drama club, math club, French club or really any sport. However, Quiz bowl is one that seems to be overlooked or often neglected at times. Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge. There are also tournaments for individual players rather than teams. The club teaches life skills such as self-discipline, observation, listening and making and defending decisions.
In a competition, four members from each team are allowed to play. In order to prepare for states the team runs through old packets of questions as well as use a website called, Photobowl.
Page High School has its very own Quiz bowl club. They practice every Thursday after school and Friday morning. Mr. Creech is the advisor, and he led the team to States this year. The members consist of Alex Domachowski, Bobby Young, Zach Martin and their captain Micah Chacon. The team placed 5th at this past States competition out of sixteen teams. The competition was located just outside of Charlotte and lasted about seven hours. The team played eight games and went six-two. Page competed against schools like Northwest and Southern Guilford in the regular season. Their season went ten to zero and they went on to play better schools like NCSSM and Chapel Hill in tournaments.
Quiz bowl builds intelligence and teamwork, as well as rewards and encourages learning while teaching basic fundamentals with working with people. It’s a great opportunity to add to your resume and to gain acquiring information.
