Last week at Page was filled with plenty of games, gatherings and poetry slams in remembrance of the late Sincere Davis. Davis was a former Page student who tragically passed away in a shooting in Spring 2019. We asked a few members of Team Voyage who participated in the Week to Be Sincere about why it holds so much meaning at Page, as well as the impact it creates for fellow peers whilst implementing fun activities. One member, Javon, says taking a week to remember Sincere is important in unifying students. “The passing of Sincere Davis doesn’t just affect his family, but also the people closest to him- creating this bringing togetherness.” In terms of the week acknowledging Sincere as a person, he says “The week was pretty much built around Sincere Davis- such as the football [event] and poetry slam. These activities are all pieces of what Sincere valued in his character.” When asked if he thinks Page will continue the tradition of a Week to Be Sincere, he says “Maybe, but it’s up in the air, as this last one was made out of a collective agreement.” All in all, the Week to Be Sincere was a great way of commemorating the character of Sincere Davis. Through these little activities and events, Page can create a united environment between people who knew and didn’t know Sincere Davis.
