It is finally that time of the year when American citizens start thinking about the upcoming election. Whether you’re participating in this year’s election or not, you should still understand how voting works and the rights you have as a voter. North Carolina will hold its general election on November 5, 2024. An important tip for voters is to register on time. When voting in an election, you need to make sure you never miss any deadlines. Checking your registration is another important step you need to take to vote. Voters need to check that their registration information is accurate and up-to-date. After ensuring that all information is accurate, you need to make sure you have the correct polling location. Showing up to the wrong polling location will not only waste your time but your vote may not be counted.
On the day of the election, NC voters need to make sure that they bring and show their photo ID. Once you have voted and placed your ballot into a tabulator, your selections are recorded on a media card in the tabulator. On election night the results are counted and reported publicly. If you are unable to show up for in-person voting, don’t worry. There are three ways that you can vote: voting early in person, during the early voting period voters may cast an early vote. The early voting period begins on Thursday, October 17, 2024, and ends on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
The second way to vote is the most common way to vote: voting in person on election day. The third way is voting through and mail-in ballot. Voting through mail is most helpful to those who are in the military overseas, visually impaired, and disabled. Any North Carolina registered voter may request and receive a mail-in ballot where absentee voting is permitted. There are two ways to request the mail-in ballot, one option is the online NC Absentee Ballot Portal, second option is filling the form on paper by printing the PDF form. Exercising your right to vote is your choice, but your vote matters and can determine the future of our country.
