People have worn many different types of clothing over the years because of what is popular or in style. Many things that people wore in the past are similar to what we wear today but some could be seen as strange today.
In the 50s women wore tailored tweed and ankle length dresses that had low necklines and long skirts with petticoats. In style clothing for women at the time had many more rules and regulations and almost all women matched their hats, jewelry, shoes, and handbags. Women usually had shorter hair at the time. Men wore tailored gray flannel suits with white shirts and slim ties for formal events and polo shirts, leather jackets, and denim jeans more casually.
In the 60s women wore tailored skirts as well as heeled shoes and short boxy jackets with overs zed buttons. Women wore their hair middle parted and curled at the ends and was also longer than in the 50s. 60s men wore slim fitting pants or trousers with a polo or button down shirt. Men had the same hair as the 50s but used more exaggerated features.
Popular clothing for women in the 70s include tye-dye shirts, Mexican “peasant” blouses, folk-embroidered Hungarian blouses, and military surplus clothing with bell bottom pants, ankle length maxi dresses, and frayed jeans. The hair that women had in the 70s is longer and puffier. Men wore bell bottom jeans, mood rings, t-shirts, vests, and sweaters in the 70s. In the 70s men had the longer feathered hair.
In the 1980s women wore thin belts, knee-high boots, thick kitten heels, sneakers, jelly shoes, and thin necklaces. They also wore bright colors with loose fitting clothes. The clothes women wore also included high waisted bottoms and ripped jeans. Women had larger and longer hair styles that poofed out. Men in the 80s wore v-neck sweaters, tracksuits, polo shirts, and sports jerseys with jeans rolled off to show slouch socks, polyester button ups, beanies, cowboy boots, and hoodies. Men had longer mullets and fades.
In the 90s women commonly wore colored jean jackets, spandex leggings, halter neck tank tops, drainpipe jeans, and shoulder padded black leather jackets. They usually had full hair with much variation. Men in the 90s wore biker jackets, high top sneakers, baggy jeans, windbreakers, plaid shirts, bucket hats, and cargo shorts. The hair that 90s men had was usually the “greaser” hairstyle that returns from the 50s.
