On February 1st, Page High School had its winter formal. Last year, it was called Twerp, in which I emailed the student council president, asking some questions about this year’s dance. Which, one of the questions I asked was what made them change the name from Twerp to Winter Formal? Ms. Abell, the student council president, responded by saying ‘Mr. Naglee asked to switch the name to better reflect the changing world that is not necessarily couples dating.’ I also asked about the past dance and asked what the meaning of Twerp even meant, to which she said it meant ‘ The Woman Elects the Right to Pay.’ how they figure out the theme of dances, they make the student council seniors create a list of three themes that the rest of the student council choose from, in which Isabelle Simpson, the social chair, creates a visual presentation of the decorations and style from one of those themes, for the entire student council to decide. This year, their DJ came to them during the COVID shutdown; He is a retired SRO now entertaining events, in which the students could scan a QR code and add their music to a playlist the DJ played. It’s enjoyable that Page High School can host dances where they bring students together and boost morale between each other and the school itself.
