It is no secret that Page High School isn’t in as good a condition as it was in 1958. It’s been a hot topic for students, teachers, and parents. The Page community has felt the effects of broken-down bathrooms, mold and leaks in the auditorium, and no heat during cold winter days. This past winter, Page High School missed valuable school days because it was too cold in the classrooms to learn. Luckily, our wonderful Page High parents stood up for us and called for action, pushing for Page to explain their issues at the GCS school board meeting with a campaign for Page called ‘Bring The Heat’. It was a huge success with multiple students explaining their firsthand experiences and how it has affected their learning.
Now it’s spring 2025 and everyone is getting excited, and hearing rumors of renovations over the summer. I got to speak with the mastermind of the new renovations, Dr. Naglee, who said “Different people from the county came through, including our superintendent. Now that we have these funds, they know that renovations are needed here at Page High School.” The biggest renovation is going to be the auditorium, which has been unusable all year. All events that were previously done in our auditorium have been done across the street in the Cone Elementary auditorium, so this renovation will be huge for the theatre program, the band, orchestra, choir, and others who use the space. Dr. Naglee told me that these won’t be just minor improvements, but this will practically be a brand-new space, including a new roof, new floor, new seats, new lights and sound system, and repainting. The media center is also getting a brand-new roof. Finally, the bathrooms are being renovated, and a new track is going to be put in.
One big question I had was how the renovations are being funded, and Dr. Naglee said “A lot of the work that I just spoke about is being funded by the bond projects that the voters passed a few years ago. Our alumni and Friends organization, as well as our booster club, are completing some other things.” It is awesome that we have the support of our voters and generous investors who want to make Page a better environment. But the Page community doesn’t want our building improvements to stop at renovating; the ultimate goal is a new building and to do that we will need continued support from the voters. I asked Dr. Naglee about those plans of rebuilding and if that was still possible in the future, and he said “Right now, due to inflation the current bond that has been passed will not include a brand-new building. So, it does look like more and more that there will need to be another bond passed for Page to be fully rebuilt.
A lot of change is coming to Page and Dr. Naglee is doing his best to make sure the Page community grows with it. One of the biggest new things he has done is make the meaning of DREAM BIG an acronym with a deeper meaning. Building is one of the key points with the B in BIG standing for Build. The future looks bright for Page, and all returning Page students will have some BIG things to look forward to coming into the 25-2026 school year. As always, Pirates, continue to enjoy your summer and DREAM BIG!
