The Junior Class Preps for the ACT

All juniors will be taking the ACT next Tuesday, March 1st, 2016 at Page. Each teaching department at Page has been preparing students for the ACT by doing ACT prep in their classes. Here are each of the department’s plans for ACT prep:

Foreign Language Department ACT plan:

 

  1. Graphic organizers for reading
  2. Strategies to help students to read more efficiently (before reading, while reading a text and after reading strategies)
  3. How to identify main ideas
  4. Think critically (read and summarize)

 

NJROTC ACT plan:

Peterson’s online ACT prep course will be used one day per week starting after our inspection on December 08, 2015 until the ACT is given.

 

Science Department ACT plan:

Wednesday will be designated as ACT Day. Teachers will spend at a minimum 20 minutes on ACT Materials.

English Department ACT Plan:

The English department will be focusing on grammar and punctuation. For 9th and 10th grade teachers, you will find more of a “theme” for the week. 11th grade teachers will focus on ACT aligned lessons.

 

Math Department ACT Plan:

The math department will be incorporating ACT questions into warm-ups.

 

Cultural Arts Department ACT Plan:

The cultural arts department will be focusing on test-taking skills and incorporating vocabulary

 

Social Studies Department ACT Plan:

The social studies department will be incorporating ACT strategies and skills into the Social Studies content.

 

 

The ACT consists of 5 sections, including English which is 75 questions in 45 minutes, math with 60 questions in 60 minutes, reading with 40 questions in 35 minutes, science with 40 questions in 35 minutes, and a written essay in 30 minutes. Students will have the choice of sending their ACT test scores to colleges. Good luck to all the students taking the ACT in February!
