The Page Grimsley football game is probably the biggest event at Page in the Fall with the only true contender being Homecoming. There are many times that we forget that the people who play in these games have to wait and prepare for such a large event.
Before these events there is a Pep Rally. This year was the first year to have 2 separate Pep Rallies. In past years the whole school had the large event the day of the game. This year was the first year that we had a JV Pep Rally the day before with all of the freshman and sophomores. The Pep Rallies this year consist of chorus singing, dance performances, musical chairs, marching band, football team running out, cheerleading cheers, bubble fights, a whirlie getting defeated by a pirate, and a Page Athletics hype video (The same one
that plays before games.)
Coach Hann of the football team is ho
ping to beat Grimsley in the game and break the several year streak of Grimsley beating Page. His prediction for the outcome of the game is for Page to win 24 to 21. Coach Hann believes that the large student section along with families being at the games makes a big difference. He has been to one of these games before. He believes that the team feels great about the game happening soon. He is glad that the game is at home because that is his preference.
The team also has a great perspective
on the game being that Justin Williams, Page’s defensive back, believes that if the team plays how they have practiced a win will be inevitable. He has never been to a Page Grimsley game so he will get to play in his first one. He is happy about the game being at home because our student section is, “The best in the city!” Justin wants to get a D1 college scholarship in the future. Page’s running back, Floribert Kizumina, wants to change the losing streak that Page has to Grimsley. He thinks that if the team follows the plan, stays focused, and keeps a good mentality the team has the tools to win. Floribert has been to past Page Grimsley games and that it is usually competitive with the team’s history and packed. He also likes the game to be at home because it gives the “protect the trap” mindset that mak
es the team play better. Our offensive lineman J’Kyh wants to win the game and surprise the whole state. He thinks that the game will be close with Page winning, similar to what Coach Hann thinks. J’Kyh has played in a Page Grimsley game before and played well. He likes the game to be at home just like Page’s center Jameson Stout who likes the new turf field. He believes that the game will end with the score showing how hard each team worked. Jameson has been to one of these games before and thought that it showed the animosity between the 2 schools because at the one he went to in 2015 Page won
42-0 but the year later lost 54-0.
