Have you watched The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) ? If not, I definitely
recommend it! It follows the main character, Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of
“Halloweentown”.
He gets a bit bored of Halloween, and the tradition of scaring people all the time. He
stumbles upon “Christmastown” accidentally. While he’s there, he enjoys the Christmas
vibe and plans to bring that same cheer and joy to Halloweentown. He does this by
kidnapping Santa and taking his identity, but he doesn’t quite get the concept of
Christmas.
Yesterday, me and a close friend were discussing our favorite Christmas movies. They
mentioned The Nightmare Before Christmas being their favorite, they then proceeded to
say, “If it even qualifies as one… it might actually be a Halloween movie.” Honestly, this
had me thinking so of course I looked it up and found out this debate has been going on
for a while. Izabel Swartz of northnationmedia.com says it’s a Halloween movie, due to
its aesthetic and coloration’, being dark and spooky.
reddit.com/r/movies/comments/16n6qut/is_the_nightmare_before_christmas_a_hallowe
en/ is a reddit thread that talks of how the movie is indeed a Halloween movie, WITH
Christmas themes. I hope this settles the debate.
