What is Pirate to Pirate? Pirate to Pirate is an initiative program helping students to connect to one positive individual. This allows students to be able to communicate with faculty or staff whom happen to be an adult; we are building a sense of trust between Pirates. The initiative program will be meeting every fourth Wednesday of the month, covering such topics as college admission, test taking strategies, time management and many more. The place of meeting happens to be in Homeroom with a select amount of students so Pirates don’t feel overwhelmed or intimidated by large amounts of their peers. Its important students feel connected to their school experiencing different types of support from other students, teachers, and faculty and staff. Dr. Faison and the other staff are striving to make students comfortable, and welcome, supported during their years at Page High School preparing them for the transition to college and the real world.

The purpose of Pirate to Pirate is to not only connect students with a responsible and positive adult, but to teach Pirates the life skills needed to operate on a successful level in the real world. Students will be expected to set goals for themselves counting the need for realism, a deadline, measurability, achievability, and the need for specification regarding the goal. The reason students are expected to set goals is to give them something to work towards putting forth effort in hope of accomplishing their goal. Students will also be taught Soft skills, things not able to be learned through the normal curriculum or taught from a textbook. Pirates will develop certain skills to aid them in diffusing certain situations with the help of an adult or if no adult is present or nearby by themselves.

This initiative program was initially developed by Dr. Faison and some of the other staff like Mrs. Shoffner and Ms. Sims, to help students feel emotionally connected to their high school. This program also gives student’s different support systems to lean on when necessary. At the end of the day all staff and faculty want is for students to strive to be the best them they can be and to be successful not only just in academics but in the outside world. The only thing students can do is use the resources provided for them putting in one hundred percent in everything they do so the outcome is success.
