President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela has recalled all diplomats from the United States and closed its embassy on Thursday, January 24. The day before, Maduro ordered all U.S. diplomats out of the country. President Donald Trump and his staff are refusing to remove the diplomats since the U.S. does not recognize Maduro as Venezuela’s leader, therefore Maduro’s commands would not be legal. Russia, China, Syria, Iraq, Cuba, and Turkey voiced their support for Maduro. Many members of the United States government support Juan Guaido who was sworn in as President on Wednesday to rid the nation of the their dictator, Maduro. The United States’ support for Guaido caused Maduro’s orders to rid Venezuela of U.S. officials.

This week, a video was posted that went viral all around the nation. A group of Covington Catholic High School students who took place in the March for Life at the Lincoln Memorial, some students wearing “Make America Great Again” hats and others in school attire, was confronted by members of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement. In the video, a member of this group was seen marching towards a student from the Catholic school while he beat his drum. The man was then seen standing directly in front of the student’s face as the groups collided. The school began to say school chants to “drown out the hecklers,” said a U.S. news station, but claimed to say nothing more or inappropriate, as the Black Hebrew Israelite protesters were said to call out students by threatening them and insulting them. The school had to close down for the day due to receiving threats of safety after the video became public because people had accused the students of mocking the Native Americans. Others are furious over the hats that they wore and claimed that their parents should not have taught them to support our President. When reporting about this story, one news reporter claimed, “This ‘Make America Great Again’ hat is just as maddening and frustrating and triggering for me to look at as a KKK hood. That is the type of hatred his policies represent.” Nick Sandmann, junior, recalled that Nathan Phillips, the Native American seen in the video, “locked eyes with me and approached me, coming within inches of my face” and “played his drum the entire time he was in my face.” Sandmann was “mortified that so many people have come to believe something that did not happen — that students from my school were chanting or acting in a racist fashion toward African Americans or Native Americans. I did not do that, do not have hateful feelings in my heart and did not witness any of my classmates doing that.” After digging deeper, many sources have found that Phillips has a criminal record, including an escape from prison.
