Robertson’s Reportings: 3/8 – 3/14

Welcome to Robertson’s Reportings! On March 10, a Boeing plane crashed in Ethiopia, killing 157. British, Chinese, Australian, and other aviation forces have grounded Boeing planes due to many recent crashes. Boeing is an American corporation that designs and sells aircrafts. Almost four percent of Boeing aircrafts have been involved in incidents since the company opened in 1916. United States officials have traveled to Ethiopia to investigate the accident, as have forensics experts from Israel. These international investigators hope to identify the issue and make an immediate change.

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, along with 48 other Americans, have been accused of bribing college admissions officers to get their children into well-known, elite colleges such as Yale and Stanford. The scandal began in California when William Singer, the mastermind behind everything, began helping parents. Singer claimed, after he was found guilty, that he helped over 750 families. The case has been investigated for over a year, but the charges have just been brought. Some students claimed to not having knowledge of the scheme while others took part with their parents. Money would be paid to SAT or ACT administrators and college coaches to create fake profiles for the students. In some of the cases, other individuals were paid to take the SAT or ACT for the student. Once a student got into a college, they would join the athletic team where they got a scholarship, even if they had never played before, and play briefly and then quit, act injured, or not show up to practice. Huffman was arrested, and Loughlin has been charged.

A lost Caravaggio painting was recently discovered in an attic. This painting is expected to sell for $171 million. The dark painting depicts a bloody man, and researchers believe that it reflects the painter’s emotions because it was painted shortly after he fled Rome when he was accused of murder. The painting, being five and a half feet tall, will be auctioned off this June in France.

From 2014-2016, rare marine species were found all over California’s coast, but nobody knew why. A variety of snails, dolphins, and fish were discovered on the coast, an unnatural habitat for the organisms found. A total of 67 different species appeared, and 37 had never been seen so far north. Recent studies have shown the cause: rising temperatures and changing currents created a warm-water blob. These creatures have not been seen in the past year, but researchers are constantly checking up on the coast. See you next time on Robertson’s Reportings, coverage you can count on!
