Robertson’s Reportings: 2/7 – 2/13

Welcome back to Robertson’s Reportings! In an Afghanistan attack on February 9, two Americans were killed, and six others were injured. The victims were both first sergeants who were 28 years old. A man in an Afghan uniform opened fire on a base in an eastern province of Afghanistan. The longest war that America has been in will hopefully come to an end soon, as the War in Afghanistan has lasted nearly 20 years. In President Trump’s State of the Union Address last week, he stated, “We are working to finally end America’s longest war and bring our troops back home.”

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show took place on February 11. This show has been held in New York City every year since 1877. This is the second oldest sporting event in all of America, next to the Kentucky Derby horse races. Approximately 3,000 dogs enter the competition and are judged in various categories over a three day period. Many categories are “Best in Group,” while the most prestigious award that a dog can win is “Best in Show.” As a reward, the dogs receive trophies, and the “Best in Show” occasionally has the opportunity to meet the president.

The New Hampshire primary election, the first election in a nationwide series, results came out on February 11. As for the Democratic candidates, Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg nearly tied with about 25% of the votes each. Behind them, Amy Klobuchar received nearly 20% of the votes. The Republican division of the primary has President Trump leading with over 80% of votes. Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld has the majority of the other Republican votes.

Hurricane-force winds have passed through many parts of Europe in the form of Storm Ciara, also referred to as Storm Sabine. At least six people have already been killed in Sweden, Germany, and Poland. As Europeans begin recovering from the treacherous conditions, a new storm, Storm Dennis, is expected to come this weekend, bringing floods and more heavy winds.
