After cruising through the regular season, the Pirates tennis team finally had a close match. After ending singles tied at 3-3, the Pirates had to win two of the three doubles matches to be able to move on to the next round: the State Championship.  Hardy Brown and Charlie Snipes won their matchup, but Jack Oldis and Mason Kolls were unable to pull out a win. That left Michael Bass and Henry Enochs with arguably the biggest match of the season. When the other two matches had ended, Michael and Henry were losing, and it was not looking good for the Pirates. Coach Hogwood pulled the two to the side and gave them a pep talk. After that, the two dominated. They pulled themselves back into the game and Michael ended up winning the match for them on his last serve. The team stormed the court and enveloped Michael and Henry, screaming with joy. Michael said “After my loss in singles, it was awesome to be able to redeem myself with that match, but I could not have done it without the help of my coaches and support of my teammates.” The pirates will take on Panther Creek in the State Championship on Saturday, May 21 at 1 pm at the UNC Indoor Tennis Courts. Come out and support the tennis team!
