Pirates Top the Whirlies; Fall to Falcons

The Pirates’ baseball team faced off against our across town rival, Grimsley on May 3rd. The final score was 4-0, with Cade Darnell leading the charge as the starting pitcher. He had a low batting average against of .231, a batting percentage of .667, and he had 4 strikeouts. The outfield held strong with a huge .968 fielding percentage and 21 put outs on 31 chances. That win left the Pirates with a 14-11 record, with a 6-4 in conference record. They played Southeast Guilford on the following day. We suffered a close loss with a final score of 3-4. We held them to a low batting percentage of .067, while ours stuck at .200. Senior Carter Payne led the team as the starting pitcher and threw 102 pitches. Despite the efforts made by Payne, the Pirates suffered a slim loss to a strong Southeast Guilford team.
