Pirates Sink the Viking’s Ship for First Conference Win

Last Night, the Pirates got past the Monday blues as they took down Northwest Guilford 26-6 in Marion Kirby Stadium for the Homecoming Game. Bouncing back from the tough loss versus East Forsyth near the end of September, the Pirates came off their bye week hungry for their first conference win. After an interception on the first drive in the redzone, the Pirates pulled it together with a 14-yard touchdown thrown to Ford Moser by Javondre Page. Wanting to come out aggressive, the Pirates attempted a two point conversion but couldn’t punch it in. On the following drive, Northwest scored an impressive 73-yard passing touchdown taken in by Brandon Thomas. Luckily, the extra point was missed leaving the game tied at six, giving the Pirates the spark they needed entering the second quarter. After this, the Vikings wouldn’t be able to put anymore points on the board due to a strong Pirate defense, including two interceptions by DB Antonio Herbin and two sacks by DT Kam Gavin. In total, the defense was extremely dominant with three interceptions and a fumble recovery. Offensively, the Pirates were consistent with a touchdown in the first three quarters.. QB Javondre Page finished the game 14/23 passing for 120 yards(2 TD) and 12 carries for 125 yards(1 TD). On top of this, special teams came to play with a blocked punt and TD return by Isaiah Oglesby in the fourth quarter. This was the play that capped off a dominant performance by the Pirates and sealed the deal for their first conference win.

With this victory the Pirates improve their record to 3-5, which includes three forfeits for losses of games that were originally won on the field. The Pirates play next this Friday at High Point Central, a team coming in 3-6 off of a 45-13 loss to Grimsley. Expect the Bison to be hungry after getting blown out three games straight, with their defense giving up more than 40 points per game in this stretch and offense failing to put up many points, the Bison are looking for a statement game this Friday at home. As always, good luck to the Pirates as they travel to face High Point Central!
