Pirate Football Sails Through the Storm

Last night the Pirates defeated the Whirlies for the twelfth year in a row! Although the game was set on dry and dark Thursday evening, the Pirates wouldn’t be discouraged, sailing to a 21-7 victory. From the first possession the Pirates appeared as the aggressor, taking away the Whirlie’s home field advantage by quieting the crowd with stellar defensive plays, one of which was a massive sack by senior Defensive Lineman Kobe Phillips in the first quarter. On the other hand, the offense was sparked in the first quarter with a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Quarterback Javondre Page. Missing the extra point, the Pirates entered the second quarter ahead by six. Late in the second quarter the Pirates scored another touchdown, with Javondre Page rushing once again for six and Branson Adams completing the two point conversion to put them up 14-0 heading into the locker room. During the third quarter, the Pirates defense would tire as Grimsley drove down the field, completing a 15-yard passing touchdown to receiver Quan Nora. After this, the Pirates offense came out strong and sucked the air out of Jamieson Stadium with a balanced drive ending with a 14-yard rushing touchdown by Branson Adams. Making the extra point this time, the Pirates defense took command of the game during the fourth quarter as the clock winded down, ending the game with an interception with two seconds left.

The Pirates have a bye this upcoming Friday, facing Ragsdale at home on November 9th. As of now, the Ragsdale Tigers stand at 7-3, coming back to win last night against High Point Central. Though their record looks strong, the Tigers lost big to stronger teams such as Dudley(42-7) and even Grimsley(34-21), both teams which the Pirates have defeated already. From everyone at Page, congratulations to the Pirates on their great win against Grimsley and good luck two weeks from now against Ragsdale!
