Men’s Basketball Finishes Strong Season

In their first basketball game of February, the Men’s Varsity team was defeated by Northwest Guilford. The final score was 80-66. Page had a strong fourth quarter because they scored 20 while Northwest scored 21 points. However, the harsh third quarter resulted in their loss. When the Pirates took on the Whirlies on February 11, the game was very close. While Page scored 38 points, Grimsley scored 39. Page’s team played High Point Central on February 12. Similar to the women’s team, the game played against High Point was a win. The Pirates scored 62 points, whereas their opponents only scored 42. Their final game of the regular season was a home game against Ragsdale. Page won a game against Ragsdale earlier in the season, and also won this game by ten points. The record of their season was 14-10, an improvement from last year’s record of 10-14.

Page played Grimsley on Tuesday, February 18, in the Metro 4A Semifinals at UNCG. It was a close game, but Page came out as the winning team. In the second round of their tournament, Page battled Northwest. This was scheduled for Friday, February 21, but the weather postponed the event to February 22. Unfortunately, Page lost by 14 points. The 4A Men’s Basketball Tournament began on February 25. In the first round, Page played Myers Park. Throughout North Carolina, Page was ranked 120 while Myers Park was ranked 56. However, Page dominated, scoring 83 points against Myers Park’s 58 points. This win advanced them to the second round of the tournament that took place on February 27. In this round, Page played against Olympic who was ranked number two in the west division of the tournament. Unfortunately, Page lost and had an abrupt end to the championship tournament. The score was 57-16. With six graduating seniors on the team and only seven juniors and sophomores, the team will need to recruit more players for next year’s season and will hopefully make even more progress than the athletes this year.
