Women’s Basketball Team Starts Off Strong

The Pirate women’s basketball team is off to a strong 4-3 start with a 76-13 win in the first game of the season against Smith. Then the Pirates took on the Dudley Panthers on January 11th resulting in a 62-35 road loss but the team bounced back the next day with a tight 45-43 win at Uwharrie Charter Academy. Closing out the week on Friday Dudley came to “The Mac” and took a 65-40 win over our Pirates. Page played two tough home games against Providence Grove on January 21 coming away with a 62-35 win but suffered a heartbreaking 54-46 loss to the Northwest Guilford Vikings in the conference opener.

Our Lady Pirates got their first conference win against High point Central on the road 76-27 and headed to Westover Terrace to face rival Grimsley that Friday. Our Lady Pirates came away with the 42-35 rivalry win at Grimsley last week! Scoring for the Pirates was led by seniors Reagan Maynard with 12 points and Meredith Fennie with 10. When asked how it feels playing against your archrival, Fennie said, “Playing against Grimsley is always an exciting game to be a part of. Coming into the game the team was very focused and wanted to make a statement.” The double-digit win did in fact make a statement. Great job Pirates!
