Pirate Baseball Starts Season With Tough Defeats (+ Season Updates)

After the baseball team’s first week of games, we lost two tough games to great teams. The season opener against Ragsdale was a 6-2 loss to the Tigers, but this was a hard-fought game against a very strong pitcher. Jacob Trivette hit a two-run homerun to put us on the board. Friday’s game against Northwest was closer than the score; however, we ran out of steam late in the game. Jacob Phillips made the start on the mound and pitched a great 2+ innings. This week out pirates play High Point Central on the road on May 5 and home against Grimsley on May 6. Go Pirates!

Last week the Pirates played very well, going 1-1. Sophomore Brian O’Connell pitched a complete game shutout in the 12-0 win over High Point Central for our first win of the season. The Whirlies entered the Cove on Thursday and came away with the win against the Pirates in a tight ballgame. This week our team travel to Ragsdale on Tuesday, May 11, and then hit the road to Northwest on Friday, May 14th. We hope to see you support the Diamond Pirates this week!

Updates from May 19: Coming off two losses against Ragsdale and Northwest, the Pirates look for revenge against the hated Grimsley Whirlies on Friday, May 21 on Westover Terrace. This week, Jackson Hill will be rejoining the team after missing the first six games due to a shoulder injury. The team can’t wait to see him in the lineup!
