The Rise of Caitlin Clark

The Rise of Caitlin Clark

The women’s college basketball teams this year have been extremely entertaining to watch, especially standout player Caitlin Clark of Iowa. Catching the attention of everybody, she has recently been selected as the #1 pick in the WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever. Though she claimed she was nervous, there was no doubt she would be extremely successful in her future career!

Caitlin’s success in basketball has been remarkable. She’s gained attention for her talent and has broken many records, building a name for herself. From being named Big Ten Preseason Player in 2023 to breaking the women’s single-game scoring record in 2024, Caitlin shows continuous growth and inspires many female athletes to achieve their goals, both in sports and academically. Considering she was also named the Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, maintaining a 3.64 GPA -impressive!
Though Caitlin is loved by many, including myself, there are plenty of people who are praying on her downfall. One of the reasons is pure jealousy. They may feel that Caitlin is overshadowing other female players, and by doing this, she is receiving attention that she doesn’t deserve.

Another reason could just be certain biases from other teams or other prejudices that influence their opinion on Caitlin. Whether that be her playing style, personality, or background, it leads to unwarranted criticism of her. Also, as a public figure with over 1.2 million Instagram followers, she receives a lot of hate online from her supposed fans, the media, and even rival teams. Though her visibility does offer her a lot of opportunities when it comes to her career, it also exposes her to the negative aspects of fame.

Caitlin Clark is one of the fastest-growing WNBA stars, and her journey from high school to college to now professionally playing is just the beginning of her career. Despite facing criticism and negativity at times, she has remained focused on her goals and continues to inspire countless fans with her passion for the game. We can't wait to see what else she has in store.
