Inside The Classroom

Mrs. Scarbro’s 4th period class, AP Art 2D, is all about individuality. Her students have the entire year to create a portfolio consisting of twelve pieces and choose eight to submit for a final AP test grade at the end of the year. Currently the students are working on an individual projects on concentration, meaning the art work they are creating has one main focus of their choice. This class has very loose guidelines and the kids are never told what to draw, which allows the students to achieve their ultimate goal of creating a portfolio that reflects them. Over the year they get to experience many different methods of art and design such as painting, pencil design, and open media. Page High senior Ben Rakestraw, says “Being a part of AP Art has helped me develop a creative mind and motivate me to apply it to what I would like to pursue in the future, photography.”  Students participate in class critiques in order to get feedback on their art and expand their talent. Mrs. Scarbro tells us that the class is really fun to teach because her students are able to grow into their own artistic style and that she enjoys watching them evolve. Her students work can be seen around the school as many of the projects are displayed on the hallway walls. “Passion is creativity, creativity is passion, therefore I am passion” says Ian Jones, AP Art student and senior at Page.  If you are interested in taking this class next year, you must complete art three or four, you must be recommended by a teacher, and a portfolio has to be submitted as well.
