Inside The Classroom: Fundamentals of Nursing

Attention students at Page High School who are interested in the medical field; please consider taking a class here taught by Scarlett Smith Cooke, RN. The class is called Fundamentals of Nursing and it primarily teaches students to be Certified Nursing Assistants. This class follows a special curriculum, with three parts offered here at Page: Health Science One (10th grade- mainly teaches Anatomy, Physiology, and Disorders) Health Science Two (11th grade-eligible with a final average of 80 in Health Science One and mainly teaches the profession itself), and Fundamentals of Nursing (12th grade-eligible with a final average of 85 in Health Science Two.) Fundamentals of Nursing is mostly a hands on class and requires “Clinical Hours”, which are earned by partaking in direct patient care. This class has recently taken action in feeding the homeless which was sponsored by Moses Cone Emergency Department.  Ms. Cooke tells us, “Every student that participated was very engaged in their part of helping someone else who is less fortunate. This was a great opportunity for students to truly earn service learning hours.”  At the end of the session students take a test that determines whether or not you’ll receive a Certified Nursing Assistant license (CNA). If you’re interested in applying to any nursing school, a CNA is required.  This class is to be taken seriously and if you are interested in the medical field, especially a nursing profession, this is a good route to take.
