Now that we’re in October the month of Halloween let’s find 5 movies to get into the Halloween and Fall spirit!
1. Twitches
Twitches is a movie about twins Alexander (Tia Mowry) and Camryn (Tamera Mowry), who reunite on their 21st birthday. They find out they have powers and come from a different dimension that seems like a fairy tale until they are told there is a thing called “The Darkness” coming after them and needs to be defeated. You can watch Twitches on Disney+, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
2. Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is about a teenager named Max Dennison (Omri Katz) and his little sister Dani (Thora Birch) going to an abandoned house with their new friend Allison (Vinessa Shaw) while they’re in the house Max accidentally frees a coven of witches. They have to steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal before sunrise, with the help of a magical cat named Binx who was once a teenager trying to save his sister from the witches until the witches cursed him to be a cat for eternity. You can find Hocus Pocus on Disney, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV.
3. Poltergeist (1982)
In Poltergeist, strange things start happening to a regular family in California, Steve (Craig T. Wilson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), Dana (Dominique Dunne), 8-year-old Robbie (Oliver Robbins), and 5-year-old Carol Ann (Heather O’Rourke). When ghosts live with them through a television set, the ghosts seem friendly and playful, until they unexpectedly turn threatening, once their daughter Carol Ann goes missing. Steve and Diane turn to a parapsychologist and eventually an exorcist. You can find Poltergeist on Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
4. Scream (1996)
Scream may be overrated but it’s a good horror movie if you don’t want to watch an actual horror. If you haven’t seen the film, the movie is about a killer called “Ghostface” that starts killing off teenagers, as more people are being killed the tension begins to rise and more people are getting worried that they might be the next victim to fall under Ghostface. the movie is very self aware in the way horror movies are told, (people always run away and end up being locked in the room with the killer, go alone and split up and the “final girl” trope etc.). You can watch Scream on Max, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.
5. Coraline
Last but not least Coraline. The movie is about a girl named Coraline and her family moving to a new house, while she is exploring her new house she finds this secret door. When she goes through the door, she finds out that behind it is a world that is just like hers and better. She loves it there until her other family tries to keep her there…forever! You can watch Coraline on Tubi, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime.
