Long ago, deep in the green mountains and thick jungles of Colombia, there was a small village surrounded by nature. In that village lived a beautiful young woman. Everyone admired her — her long black hair, her soft skin, and her smile that could make any man forget his problems. She was married to a hardworking farmer, and together they had children. At first, their life was simple but full of love. But with time, things began to change. Her husband left early every morning to work in the fields and came back home very tired. The woman spent most of her days alone, taking care of the house and the children. She started to feel forgotten, and that loneliness began to grow in her heart. One day, a rich man — the owner of the nearby farm — arrived to check on the workers. He noticed the woman and couldn’t take his eyes off her. He began to visit her, first with excuses, then with compliments and small gifts: necklaces, ribbons for her hair, and sweet fruits from faraway places.
The woman felt flattered, and little by little, she allowed him into her heart. Their secret meetings continued for weeks, hidden deep in the forest or late at night when everyone was asleep. The husband, however, began to feel something was wrong. His wife was distant, distracted, and nervous. One night, he decided to follow her. He pretended to leave for work, but instead, he hid behind the trees. Under the moonlight, he saw the truth with his own eyes — his wife in the arms of another man. Rage filled his chest. He could not believe what he was seeing. In a moment of fury, he attacked the man, striking him down. Then, blinded by pain and betrayal, he turned to his wife. She cried and begged for forgiveness, but it was too late. The husband, consumed by anger, hurt her terribly and cut off one of her legs. Some say she died there, screaming in the dark. Others say her soul never left that forest.
From that night on, strange things began to happen in the mountains. Hunters disappeared. Miners swore they heard a woman crying in the distance. Men who walked alone at night said they saw a beautiful woman waving at them from between the trees. When they got close, she turned into something terrifying — her face twisted in anger, her eyes red like fire, her hair messy and full of dirt, her mouth opening wide to show sharp fangs, and her single leg ending in a hoof. That’s when they realized who she was — La Pata Sola, the One-Legged Woman.
She jumped through the forest faster than any animal, screaming with voice that could freeze your blood. Some say she attacks unfaithful men, ripping their hearts out as punishment for betraying love. Others say she hunts those who harm the forest — the ones who cut trees or hurt animals. Old people in the countryside say that if you hear her cry — a long, sad “¡Ay mis hijos!” echoing through the night — you must not answer, or she will find you. The only way to escape her is to run toward the light or stay near a river, because she cannot cross running water.
To this day, many believe she still roams the jungles, mountains, and lonely paths of Colombia. On full moon nights, people stay inside their houses, close their doors, and whisper prayers. Because when the wind blows and you hear a woman’s voice calling your name in the dark… you might be hearing La Pata Sola, searching for her next victim.
