In San Francisco, a regular house cat named Whiskers has turned into an online yoga
sensation, all by accident. Every time his owner, yoga instructor Maria Lewis, starts her virtual
class, Whiskers loves to join in—sometimes right in front of the camera. One day, he casually
stretched into a perfect downward-dog pose during a livestream, and the internet lost its mind.
The clip blew up overnight. Millions of people watched, mostly to admire Whiskers’s zen attitude
and uncanny flexibility.
Maria never saw this coming. “I just wanted to teach breathing exercises,” she said. “But
everyone kept asking, ‘What’s Whiskers up to?’” Now, a bunch of Maria’s students log in just for Whiskers. He shows up for Cat-Cow, Child’s Pose—sometimes he’s already on the mat before Maria gets there. Maria laughs about it. “Honestly, he’s more flexible than half my class.”
