Explosion in Bangladesh’s capital kills at least a dozen: 

On Tuesday, March 7th, a deadly explosion ripped through a building of Bangladesh’s capital. This incident killed at least 12 individuals, and injured around 50 people who were near the explosive area at the time. A commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, named Mahid Uddin Khondekar, does not know the exact cause of the event. Khondekar states the words, “We are not sure, but it seems accidental.” Thankfully the building was nearly vacant at the time of the explosion. However, there were still several pedestrians walking by that got injured. Photos show rescue operations carrying out the injured victims, as the relatives mourn in despair outside of the capital.

 

Turkey’s earthquake caused $34 billion in damage:

 A destructive earthquake hit Turkey on the 6th of February. It is estimated that around $34 million dollars will be inducted due to the damage. According to the World Bank, this is roughly 4% of Turkey’s annual economic output. This financial recovery will be neither quick nor easy to bear. Arda Tunka, an Istanbul-based economist, states that she does not recall any economic disaster at this level in the republic of Turkey. Even before the earthquake occurred, Turkey’s economy was slowing down drastically. Economists say that those structural weaknesses in the economy will only worsen over time. How will Turkey overcome this? Could the current president’s political position be at fate?

 

Man arrested after allegedly attempting to stab a flight attendant:

A 33 year old, named Franciso Severi Torres was arrested on February 8 for allegedly attempting to stab a flight attendant in the neck with a broken metal spoon several times. Not only did he attempt to brutally injure the flight attendant, but he also set out to open the emergency exit doors, putting the passengers at risk as well. He faces one charge of interference and attempted interference with flight attendants using a dangerous weapon. Torres remains detained and will be pending a hearing which is set for Thursday. Franciso told authorities that he tried using the broken spoon as a weapon because he thought the flight crew was trying to kill him. However, this accusation was after a flight attendant noticed Torres near the emergency exit door after having tampered with it. According to the convict, he had spoken with the captain, asking him to land as soon as possible while threatening to jump out of the plane. When a flight attendant soon confronted Torres, he immediately became aggressive and repeatedly hit the flight attendant in the neck. United Airlines declared a disclosure stating, “We have zero tolerance for any type of violence on our flights, and this customer will be banned from flying on United pending an investigation.” United Airlines then goes on to say that they are cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation. Further investigations are being conducted.
