Glass is a major problem when people throw it away. When glass ends up in landfills, it doesn’t decompose, which leads to problems of space being taken up that should be used for other trash items. Many people and companies are trying to do their best to reuse glass so that the landfills are safer and to make it a more renewable system.
For a few years now, Greensboro has made it illegal to throw away glass in the regular trash can and recycling. This is because now there are drop off locations around the city in places like libraries, fire stations, and churches. The glass, when dry and clean, is able to be thrown away and is taken into a plant that will recycle it. At the North Carolina plant, the glass is crushed and melted into new bottles and jars for companies to use. 
In the San Francisco Bay area, car break ins are at a decreasing rate, but still occur pretty regularly. Local artist, Sydney Jones, has collected the shards of glass from the streets and makes jewelry like earrings. Some people that support her work will alert her to when there was a broken into car so that she can go in and collect the shattered glass. She then sells the jewelry to people in the local area. This not only keeps the glass out of landfills but also redirects the aggression into a nice part of the community.
A company named Aero Aggregates is assisting with the need to recycle glass. Foam glass is a building material that is fire and moisture proof building material that is light weight. It is made by expanding glass with glass blowing methods. Aero Aggregates is a producer of this material, located in Eddystone, Pennsylvania, who uses 99% recycled glass to make their foam glass. This saves a lot of glass in the area and helps get rid of glass in a lot of nearby landfills.
One place that you may not be expecting to save glass is Disney World. They have a pilot program that uses a large machine to grind up, and crush glass into a sand like surface. This is good sand that can be seen generally for horse trails and greenhouse floors because it does not put many particles into the air. They also use it to fill holes and improve drainage in their parks. The sand is produced so well that it is no longer sharp and is very soft to the touch. The glass is recycled from around the park, which is a lot when you think about the drinks and products that are used in the park every day.
