With spring break approaching and most digital storefronts having spring sales it seems the perfect time to recommend some games to enjoy over break. So here are 5 of my favorite games that are also on sale for the duration or break (in no order).
- Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds is one of my personal favorites of all time in terms of story and overall experience. Outer Wilds is a game of uncovering the past; the player’s character is a rookie alien astronaut who gets caught in a time loop. To escape, they must figure out the past of an ancient alien civilization through deciphering old text and exploring their ruins. I hesitate to call it a roguelike since the only thing you gain with each loop in knowledge on how the solar system operates and the secrets of the Nomai. 10/10 game with an estimated playtime of around 20-30 hours depending on the puzzles. It has a DLC which adds roughly 10 more hours of content but is more confined and has horror elements which are not present in the base game, I give it an 8/10 but it still is pretty good. The base game is currently 40% off on Steam.
- Undertale
Undertale is a keystone game in both the history of indie games and the internet in general. It offers a unique subversion to the classic game loop of RPGs by adding an option to spare any monster. With a hilarious and often-tear-jerking story with its unique characters, intense boss battles, and stellar soundtrack. !0/10 game that I was so hooked on that I finished it in one all-nighter (no regrets). Currently 75% off Steam bringing its price down to about $2.50. It is a must-play for fans of the RPG genre and good stories in general. It does have a parallel game called Deltarune that is also a 10/10 game with four of its seven chapters out and already surpassing the quality of Undertale, another 10/10 game that I highly recommend.
- ELDEN RING
Elden Ring, one of the best games to come out this decade, was awarded game of the year in 2022 and a massive DLC in 2024 that matches the quality of the base game. It is a masterpiece in gameplay, storytelling, environments, and open world exploration. A souls game created by Fromsoftware themselves it is a vast and challenging game with some of the bosses being considered some of the hardest in gaming history. It has about 100 hours of content in both the base game and DLC. Currently the base game is 35% off on Steam, and the DLC is base price. 10/10 highly, highly recommend.
- Nine Sols
Nine Sols is a parry-focused metroidvania that has you in a ¨Taopunk¨ space station trying to find the Sols and put an end to their plans of immortality. A difficult yet rewarding combat system combined with its complex and emotional story, lovable characters, intense boss fights, amazing music, and beautiful art style, Nine Sols is a must-play for any fan of metroidvanias or parry-focused games. 10/10 game that is currently 50% off on Steam and well worth the money
- Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is a mertroidvania set in the decaying kingdom of Hallownest where you must navigate its vast and beautiful environments to fight dangerous foes and intense platforming to stop the Infection. A, once again, 10/10 game that offers an experience like no other, from the world, art, music, exploration, the discovery, the boss fights, and story. It is a masterpiece of a game and one I highly recommend. And even more now that its long-awaited sequel, Silksong is out that improves the formula in so many ways. With Hollow Knight 50% off and Silksong 20% off with Hollow Knight having around a 60-hour completion time and Silksong´s being around 80 hours to complete fully, it is an experience you won´t soon forget.
