Mr. Deaton Band Director of the Year

On May 9, Mr. Deaton received the Band Director of the Year Award from the Central District Bandmasters Association. The Band Director of the Year award is very prestigious and is rewarded to the best of the best. The CDBA recognizes a member who has had an outstanding year and who goes above and beyond to serve the district. Deaton served on committees, hosted community events, and led superior ensembles, all of which led to his receiving this award.
Mr. Eddie Deaton is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Golden Key International Honor Society, NC Music Educator’s Association, and the National Association for Music Education. He is currently the President-Elect of the Central District Bandmasters Association. Deaton has been the Band Director here at Page for the last 9 years. Before Page, he studied horn performance, conducting, and music education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, he performed in the Wind Ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra, the Marching Tar Heels, and multiple other chamber ensembles. Mr. Deaton has studied horn with many famous musicians like Jack Masarie, Pam Halverson, and Kim van Pelt. His conducting prowess developed from his time studying Dr. Michael Votta Jr. and Tonu Kalam. Deaton graduated from Page in 2000 and during his time here, he was in the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and was a Drum Major in the Marching Band.
